So far, 2020 has not been the year that we expected it to be. A lot of movie releases got postponed, and ongoing productions got delayed. In this bleak times, few good movies still came out, and a few are coming out thanks to streaming platforms. We picked the best movies of 2020 so far to provide you some cinematic escapism in this troubling time.

10. Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey

  • Cast: Margot Robbie, Ewan McGregor, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Winstead, Rosie Perez
  • Genre: Action/Superhero
From the DC universe, this one is a violent, yet funny anti-hero flick, filled with a lot of action fireworks & slow-mo sequences, where you can not resist but to root for Harley and her all-ladies team fighting for survival against Gotham city’s crime lord Black Mask. And after seeing Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, you would surely want him to play negative roles more often.

9. Bad Boys for Life

  • Cast: Will Smith, Martin Lawrence, Venessa Hudgens, AlexanderLudwig Winstead
  • Genre:  Action/Comedy
The third installment of Bad Boys franchise continues the legacy with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as the leads with their impeccable comic charm & lot of action. This time the detective pair Mike & Marcus set out to face a ruthless drug lord who is on a vengeful hunt for Mike played by Will Smith.

8. The Old Guard

  • Cast: Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari
  • Genre: Action/Thriller /Fantasy
The Old Guard is a Netflix action flick, which is an adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leonardo Fernandez’s comic series. A covert group of immortal mercenaries who can heal themselves, have been fighting evil for centuries. They discover that they are exposed, and it is up to their leader Andy played by Charlize Theron to lead them to fight for their freedom and protect their secret.

7. Color Out of Space

  • Cast: Nicolas Cage, Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur
  • Genre: Horror/Sci-fi
This trippy adaption of H.P. Lovecraft’s novel is about an ill-fated family with Nicolas Cage as the father, where a meteor crashes on their rural property and starts bending realities around them and turns their rural life into a technicolor dread.

6. The Way Back

  • Cast: Ben Affleck, Al Madrigal, Janina Gavankar
  • Genre:  Sport/Drama
Ben Affleck gives one of his best performances as an alcoholic former high-school basketball star who left the game years ago and presently struggling with his life, gets a shot at redemption when he is hired to coach his former team.

5. Greyhound

  • Cast: Tom Hanks, Elisabeth Shue, Stephen Graham
  • Genre: War/Drama
This war movie is a portrayal of what is known, in history as the battle of Atlantic during World War-II. Where Tom Hanks played a U.S navy commander who leads allied ships against German submarines in the middle of Atlantic. The intricate naval battle has been entertainingly executed on-screen with historical accuracy.

4. The Invisible Man

  • Cast: Elisabeth Moss, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Harriet Dyer
  • Genre:  Horror/Thriller
Director Leigh Whannell’s adaptation of HG Well’s classic novel of the same name is a brilliant reboot. Where an insane scientist fakes his death and terrorizes his ex-girlfriend, played by Elisabeth Moss. But nobody believes her, and she finally decides to fight back for herself.

3. Onward

  • Cast: Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Julia Louis-Dreyfus
  • Genre:  Animation/Fantasy/Drama
Just like any other Pixar movies, Onward is a visually appealing story of two elf brothers voiced by Tom Holland & Chris Pratt will make you giggle, and it will eventually make you cry. The teenage elf brothers go missing while out on a magical quest to meet their late father. And then their mother teams up with a legendary former warrior to bring her sons back home.

2. Never Rarely Sometimes Always

  • Cast: Sidney Flanigan, Talia Ryder, Théodore Pellerin
  • Genre:  Drama
This touching story is about a Pennsylvania teen faced with an unwanted pregnancy and her trip across the state to Manhattan for an abortion. With only her cousin by her side. It is a journey of compassion and courage against misogyny and sexually aggressive behavior that women, experience regularly in our society.

1. Palm Springs

  • Cast: Andy Samberg, Cristin Milioti, J.K. Simmons
  • Genre: Fantasy/ Rom-Com
Palm Springs is about two wedding guests who formed romantic interests and got stuck in a time loop to live the same day over and over again not by choice. It is a delightful and hilarious romantic comedy with a refreshing and clever spin on the same old-time loop concept.
